Cwtch (say it “cutch”) is the Welsh word for a cuddle or a snug little hideaway, so it’s no surprise it’s a favourite of ours. This relaxed restaurant on St Davids High Street is a short walk from Tŷ Cosy, and it’s just the place for a proper dinner out.
The menu changes with the seasons and is built around produce from local Pembrokeshire suppliers. The cooking is generous and unfussy, served in a warm, welcoming room with only around 50 covers, so it never feels like a big, busy restaurant. Cwtch has been named Wales the True Taste Restaurant of the Year, and it’s been a fixture of the St Davids food scene ever since.
Because it’s small and popular, booking is a must, especially at weekends and during the school holidays. Ring ahead to reserve a table, and mention any dietary needs when you book. Opening days can change through the year, so check the website for current times before you go.
Our tip: book an early table, take your time over pudding, then stroll back to the cottage for a nightcap by the log burner. No driving, no rushing, just a lovely evening out in the smallest city in Britain.
