The Farmers Arms

If you’re after a proper local pub, the Farmers Arms on Goat Street is the one. It’s a short walk from Tŷ Cosy, and there’s always a friendly mix of locals and visitors at the bar.

The pub is split into two rooms. The top room is more of a dining area, while the Glue Pot is where the locals tend to gather, with an open fire that makes it a cosy spot on a winter evening. There’s a good choice of real ale, and the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious.

Out the back, the patio looks up towards the Cathedral, and in the summer months there’s an outside bar too. It’s a lovely place to sit with a drink on a warm evening as the light fades.

The Farmers is open every day. Food is served for most of the year, but the kitchen takes a winter break, so check the website if you’re planning to eat. This winter there’s no food from 5 October 2026 to 26 March 2027, though the bar stays open as usual.

Our tip: after a long day on the Coast Path, grab a seat by the fire, order a local ale and let the evening take care of itself. The walk home afterwards takes just a few minutes.
