The Pembrokeshire weather has a mind of its own, and you can see four seasons in a day on the coast. The trick is packing smart, so you’re ready for anything without filling the car. Here’s our list for a stay at Tŷ Cosy in St Davids.
For the Coast Path
- Walking boots or sturdy shoes. The paths can be uneven and muddy, even in summer.
- A waterproof jacket. Showers blow in quickly off the sea.
- Warm layers. It’s often breezier on the clifftops than in town.
- A small rucksack with water and snacks, as cafés are few and far between on the quieter stretches.
- Binoculars for seals, seabirds and, if you’re lucky, porpoise.
For the beach
- Swimwear, even if you’re only planning a paddle
- Beach towels and a windbreak
- Sun cream and a hat, because the sea breeze can hide how strong the sun is
- Something warm for afterwards
When you get back, the heated outdoor shower in the courtyard is perfect for rinsing off sand and salt.
For boat trips
If you’re heading out to Ramsey Island or Skomer, pack an extra layer and a waterproof. It’s always cooler out on the water, and you may get splashed.
For the evenings
- A torch for walking home along the lane after dark
- Something cosy for nights in by the log burner
- Your favourite Tassimo T-Discs for the coffee machine
Forgotten something? Don’t worry. St Davids has shops for everyday essentials, and the bigger towns of Haverfordwest and Fishguard aren’t far away.
What you can leave at home
Tŷ Cosy is set up so you can travel light. Waiting for you at the cottage:
- Bed linen and towels
- A hairdryer
- A washer dryer, iron and ironing board, so you can pack fewer clothes
- A fully fitted kitchen with an induction hob, oven, microwave and dishwasher
- Wi-Fi, a Smart TV, board games and a dedicated workspace
And remember, Tŷ Cosy is non-smoking and pets aren’t allowed, so the furry friends will need to stay at home this time.
