How to Get to St Davids: Driving, Trains and Buses

Train at the platform of Haverfordwest railway station in Pembrokeshire

St Davids sits right at the far western tip of Wales, and that’s a big part of its charm. It feels wonderfully remote, but it’s easier to get to than you might think. Here’s how to reach us.

By car

Most of our guests drive. Head west on the M4 to the end of the motorway, then follow the A48 to Carmarthen and the A40 to Haverfordwest. From Haverfordwest, take the A487 to St Davids, which is about 16 miles. The last stretch has some lovely views across St Brides Bay.

Allow around two and a half to three hours from Cardiff, and longer in summer traffic. Once you arrive, Tŷ Cosy has an off-road parking space for one car. The lane to the cottage is narrow and single track, so take it slowly. The good news is that once you’ve parked, you can leave the car behind and walk to almost everything in St Davids.

By train

The nearest railway station is Haverfordwest, which has direct trains from Cardiff and Swansea. From Cardiff, the train takes around two and a half hours. Check times with Transport for Wales before you travel, as some services may need a change.

By bus

From Haverfordwest, the T11 bus runs to St Davids, taking around 50 minutes. Buses aren’t especially frequent, so check the timetable and plan your connection in advance. There are also taxis from Haverfordwest if you’d rather go straight to the door.

Getting around once you’re here

  • On foot: the Cathedral, the Coast Path, pubs, restaurants and shops are all a short stroll from the cottage.
  • Coastal buses: in summer, the Celtic Coaster shuttle runs from Oriel y Parc to Whitesands Bay and nearby beaches.
  • By car: handy for trips further afield, like Porthgain or Martin’s Haven for Skomer Island.

Arrival tips

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 10am. If you’re arriving late or have any questions about finding the cottage, just call or email Kim before you travel.
