Where to Eat in St Davids: A Couple’s Guide to Local Food and Drink

One of the best things about staying in St Davids is that dinner is never far away. Britain’s smallest city punches well above its weight when it comes to food, and from Tŷ Cosy you can walk to most of our favourite spots in a few minutes. Here’s where we send our guests.

Cwtch, for a proper dinner out

Cwtch (say it “cutch”) is the Welsh word for a cuddle, and this snug restaurant on the High Street lives up to its name. The menu changes with the seasons and is built around produce from local Pembrokeshire suppliers. It’s small and popular, so book ahead, especially at weekends and in the school holidays.

The Farmers Arms, for a pint by the fire

On Goat Street, the Farmers Arms is a real local, with real ale, an open fire and a patio that looks up towards the Cathedral. Food is served for most of the year, but the kitchen takes a winter break, so check before you go if you’re planning to eat. The bar stays open all year round.

The Brunch House at Oriel y Parc, for daytime

Oriel y Parc, the National Park’s gallery and discovery centre on the edge of the city, is home to The Brunch House café. It’s a handy stop for coffee and something tasty, and a good bolt-hole on a rainy morning.

Porthgain, for fish and chips by the harbour

About six miles up the coast, the little harbour village of Porthgain is worth the short drive. The Shed is an award-winning fish and chip bistro set in an old harbourside building, specialising in locally caught fish. Just along the harbour, The Sloop Inn is a friendly pub that’s well worth a stop.

Beach cafés

After a morning at Whitesands Bay, the café above the beach is perfect for a hot drink and a warm-up. Grab a table, watch the surfers and make the most of the view out towards Ramsey Island.

Or stay in

Some evenings, the best table in town is your own. Tŷ Cosy has a fully fitted kitchen with an induction hob, oven and dishwasher, so cooking with local ingredients is easy. If you’d rather someone else did the work, you can book a private chef through our partners at yhangry, who cook and serve dinner at the cottage and leave the kitchen spotless.

Plan your food trip

You’ll find more of our local favourites on our Experiences page, and a guide book of recommendations is waiting for you at the cottage. Ready to book your table for two? Check availability at Tŷ Cosy and start planning your menu.
