Summer gets all the attention, but some of our favourite times in St Davids are when the crowds have gone home. Autumn and winter bring empty beaches, dramatic skies and the best excuse in the world to stay in by the fire. If you’re after a cosy break for two, this is it.
Seal pups around Ramsey Island
From September through to November, grey seals come ashore to have their pups on the beaches and coves around Ramsey Island. It’s one of the wildlife highlights of the Pembrokeshire year. Boat trips run from St Davids into the autumn, weather permitting, and you may spot seals from the clifftops on the Coast Path too. Remember to keep your distance and never disturb the pups.
Wild walks and wilder weather
There’s something special about walking the Coast Path on a crisp autumn day, or watching the waves roll in at Whitesands Bay in a winter storm. The paths are quieter, the light is softer and you’ll often have the beach to yourselves. Wrap up warm, wear good boots and check the forecast before you set out.
A city that glows at night
St Davids Cathedral is beautiful at any time of year, but on a winter evening, lit up in its valley, it’s magical. Take a short stroll from the cottage after dinner, then head to the Farmers Arms for a drink by the open fire.
Made for cosy nights in
This is when Tŷ Cosy really earns its name. Underfloor heating keeps the whole studio warm, the log burner turns the living area into the snuggest spot in town, and there’s a Smart TV and board games for lazy evenings. Cook something warming in the fully fitted kitchen, or book a private chef and make a night of it.
Good to know
- Some cafés, boat trips and kitchens run shorter hours or close for part of the winter, so check ahead.
- The lane to the cottage is single track, so take it slowly in the dark.
- Pack a torch for walks home on dark evenings.
